Writes block is real, and that's okay! I spent a good 10 minutes staring at a blank word document wondering where to start. I had to no clue what to say/write. 
My task this week was to write 200 words as a starting point, which I was absolutely dreading. However once the first sentence was written, the paragraphs just started to flow. I ended up finding it really enjoyable and instead of 200 words, I ended up writing nearly 400. I got really good feedback on it which I was not expecting and I never thought I'd be saying it but I'm really looking forward to writing the rest!
So heres a sneak peek of the start of my dissertation...

Everyone thinks of the future to be very metallic, space-like and based around technology, but will it? It seems more likely bio-couture and biodegradable fabrics are becoming more popular. Will we be wearing this in the near future?
As a textile student I am interested in working with different fabrics, throughout my work I am always looking at new and different ways to become sustainable. While researching I came across Bio-Couture, this is growing your own clothing from bacteria. Suzanne Lee, a London-based fashion designer investigates the growth of clothing through the use of
bacterial cellulose. I find her work really interesting and would like to know more. I want to investigate people’s opinions of the this and could this be something we will be seeing down the catwalk soon or even on the high street?
In a world filled with technology and many issues facing our planet, it’s time to change. The fashion and textile industry face huge challenges now when designing, as there are so many problems with being sustainable. I found a quote that expresses this well,
 
‘There is no such thing as a single-frame approach. Issues dealt with in a single frame will almost by definition lead to unwanted and unforeseen effects elsewhere’. (FLECTHER, 2008:5)
 
My aim is to see how this could impact us in the future as there is no question that we need to alter the way we design and use fabric. I also want to look into how fashion brands can react to this. Some brands are already changing to become more sustainable for example, H&M have a campaign called Conscious Actions. As of last year the brand has been looking at ways to recycle fabric, so now H&M offer an incentive that you can go in store and recycle your old clothes and they will give you money off new clothes you buy. Then the clothes you have recycled will be upcycled and re worn as if it was brand new. This topic interests me quite a lot as it is affecting current and new designers more now, and I like to incorporate this into my own practise.
