Throughout all of second year my tutor would not stop taking about how important it was to get as much work experience, internships and placements within the textile industry, and my God they were right! I worked full time at a company called Dewhirst in Camden, London for just two weeks but it was a complete eye opening experience into life after uni. Dewhirst is a supply company that sells prints and fashion designs to brands such as Tesco, Dash, Autograph, Primark, M&Co and many more. While I was there I was very lucky to be asked to work on a project, designing prints for an upcoming buyers meeting, at the time I thought nothing of it didn't think it meant anything but I was receiving good feedback. On my last day I was completely surprised when they told my they loved my designs and that they were going to take them forward to the meeting, where if the company liked them they would be printed onto fabric, made as tops and sold in store. Unfortunately I am not allowed to show you these designs just yet due to copyright reasons but not bad for just the work experience girl, right?
I can't express enough how important it is to get as much experience as you can in this industry, I learnt a lot from mine and got a great insight into how quick everything works. I would highly recommend any print specialist student to work at Dewhirst, the help are so friendly and always happy to help if you have any questions. I can not thank them enough!
